Record menu

Pressing the MENU button while in one of the record modes displays the record menu over the live preview image. As many of the options which previously were on the cameras menu have now been moved to external button controls this menu appears much tidier than on older Cybershot digital cameras. In the captures below a black background was used for clarity.

White Balance

Selects one of the four white balance settings:

One Push
Auto
Indoor
Outdoor

To use the one push white balance you simply aim the camera at a plain white surface in the scene and press the 4-way controller upwards, it will take a new white balance measurement at that point.

ISO

Selects one of four ISO sensitivity settings:
400
200
100
Auto (100-300)

Image Size

Selects one of five image sizes:

2272 x 1704 (Native resolution)
2272 x 1520 (Native 3:2 cropped)
1600 x 1200 (down-sampled)
1280 x 960 (down-sampled)
640 x 480 (down-sampled)

JPEG Image Quality

Select the compression level for JPEG image format:

Fine (approx. 1.7 MB @ 2270 x 1704)
Standard (approx. 950 KB @ 2272 x 1704)

Record Mode (Image Type)

Select output image type:

TIFF (11,345 KB RGB TIFF)
TEXT (2 colour GIF)
VOICE (JPEG + 5 sec MPEG audio)
E-MAIL (JPEG + 640 x 480 JPEG)
BURST 2 (2 JPEG's about 0.7 sec apart)
NORMAL (JPEG)

Flash Level

Adjust the flash output power up or down a single level, this does not affect the exposure values (shutter speed / aperture) but simply controls the amount of power supplied to the flash.

Picture Effect

Allows you to select a picture effect to be applied to the image after it's taken, the live preview changes to reflect the selected picture effect:

SOLARIZE
B&W
SEPIA
NEGATIVE ART
OFF (Normal colour)

Sharpness

Allows you to control the camera's internal sharpening algorithm +/- two levels, sharpening is normally applied by a digital camera after the CFA Bayer interpolation stage, this allows you to control the amount of sharpening applied.
