Connections

On the top of the body we have a sliding door which a mini USB socket and A/V output for connection to a VCR / TV (for those all important family slide shows). On the rear we have a single socket for an external flash (Sony's proprietary off-board flash). (Windows 2000 USB drivers can be found here)

This is a shuffle from the F505, gone is the RS232 Serial port replaced by the A/V port (which is on the rear of the F505), in the space left is the new flash connector.

Tripod Mount

Probably the most sensibly located tripod mount of any digital camera on the market (what a useful claim). But it's true, dead center on the base of the lens (ideal for shooting panoramas) it also provides stability when balancing the camera against a flat surface and allows the camera to be used on a tripod whilst the screen is tilted to face you (without blocking any important compartment doors).

Internal Flash

The pop-up flash located on top of the lens barrel and is activated by a sliding lever. It's rated at 2.5 m (8.2 ft). It's location is the only option for the camera design, however when popped-up it's far enough away from the lens to produce relatively good coverage and little red-eye problems.

A niggle from my original F505 review still remains, for macros the top edge of the lens barrel can cast a shadow across the scene. However Sony have addressed my other two niggles: anti-red eye mode and external flash support (though it would have been nice to see a standard PC style synch connector).
