Below you will find a studio comparison between the Samsung V700and the similarly specified Canon PowerShot SD500 at ISO 400.

At ISO 400 the difference between these two cameras is even more stark. Again the Samsung wins hands-down in terms of pure detail and sharpness, but noise is a real issue, with color blotches in even fairly pale mid tones and all but the brightest highlights. The V700 may have a fairly significant edge in terms of resolution, but I suspect many people would actually prefer the result produced by the SD500 unless they're happy with post-processing.
