OpinionI have had this camera for just over 2 weeks now. My previous digital camera was an Olympus 3030 3 megapixel unit. There is no comparison between the 3030 and the *istD, the *istD is obviously in another league, both in terms of features and image quality. The sheer resolution of a 6 megapixel camera can be shocking. Images look better than your average 35mm film camera in my opnion. I own an older Canon 35mm and it produces great pictures (for being almost 20 years old), but nothing like what the *istD can do. I would say that the one thing I prefer about film over digital is that digital tends to overexpose more easily. Not that the *istD has a problem with overexposure, it doesn't, you just have to be aware of your in-camera settings. This thing is also built very solid, and handles beautifuly, if you are th type who likes the feel and look of quality, you will enjoy the *istD even more. On the whole I am impressed, if Pentax keeps this up in the years to come, they're going to get some marketshare from Canon and Nikon. | ||||
ProblemsProbably my biggest problem with the camera afflicts all digital cameras, and that is the hot-pixel phenomenon. Personally, I find a hot pixel to be very annoying, and my camera has 3 that show up regularly when shooting higher ISO low light shots. And one that shows up in 80% of the shots I have taken. There are also the little problems that everyone else has, compact flash door is inconvenient, battery door has a slight wiggle to it when shut. Another minor problem is that you can only shoot 5 rapid shot images and at only about 3 shots per second. It would have been nice to have a larger buffer and perhaps the capability to shoot 5-7 images per second. Of course, the cameras that can do that are vastly more expensive than the *istD. |
