Canon's approach to noise reduction in its small sensor compacts has of late been fairly restrained, leaving you with grainy, but sharp results that contain a decent level of detail. Panasonic's result, by comparison, looks soft, smudgy and - in the areas where the reds bleed and show banding - downright unpleasant. Of course noise is always going to be an issue with this kind of pixel density, and ultimately it's often a matter of taste. My taste is not the Venus III smearing of the LX2.
