Resolution Chart Comparison - at 6MP
Comparison cameras:
- Fujifilm FinePix F810 (6 MP, 4x zoom)*
- Minolta DiMage G600 (6 MP, 3x zoom)
- CasioEX-P600 (6 MP, 4x zoom)
- Canon PowerShot S70 (7 MP, 3.5x zoom)
*the FinePix F810 has a 6.1 MP effective SuperCCD chip that outputs 12MP images - these measurements were taken in 6MP mode.
* Because of honeycomb layout of SuperCCD pixels the camera first produces a 12 MP 'processed' (interpolated) image from the 6.3 million input pixels. If a smaller size is required this image is then downsampled.
Shots here are of the PIMA/ISO 12233 standard resolution
test chart (more of which are available in our comparison
database). This resolution chart allows us to measure the actual performance
of the lens and sensor system. It measures the ability of the camera to
resolve lines at gradually higher resolutions and enables us to provide
a definitive value for comparison purposes. Values on the chart are 1/100th
lines per picture height. Thus a value of 15 equates to 1500 lines per picture
height.
Studio light, cameras set to auto, settings all factory
default. If possible aperture was selected for optimum sharpness. Exposure compensation
+0.7 EV to +1.3 EV.

At its 6MP setting the F810 performs well compared to 6MP CCD cameras, and gets relatively close to the 7MP Canon PowerShot S70. Resolution is limited by the heavy JPEG compression, though the chart looks nice and clean, with little moire. The rather heavy-handed default sharpening is also obvious.
