Top of camera controls (right)
There are four controls on the top right side of the K200D, the power / DOF preview switch, the shutter release button, the exposure compensation / aperture value button and the new green button which has been taken over from the K20D. At the back 'under your thumb' are the command dial and Auto Exposure lock button.
|Av||Exposure compensation / Aperture value
Hold this button and turn the command dial to set exposure compensation (-2.0 to +2.0 EV in 0.3 or 0.5 EV steps) - not available in all modes. In manual exposure mode hold this button and turn the command dial to set aperture, turn the dial on its own to set shutter speed.
|AE-L||Auto Exposure Lock
Locks the exposure at the currently metered point, this is automatically reset after approximately 20 seconds.
The green button resets the camera exposure in Program mode (if shifted to aperture or shutter priority) and also adjusts the exposure in Manual exposure mode.
Top of camera controls (left)
On the left top of the camera is the exposure mode dial. The AUTO PICT mode is indicated as the 'best choice' for novice users and the green line extending around the edge of the dial indicates the picture modes automatically selected in AUTO PICT. You can manually select one of the six picture modes, additional scene modes or normal SLR exposure modes. When you turn the exposure mode dial the camera will indicate the selected mode on the LCD monitor along with a brief description.

Turn the command dial to select sensitivity (0.3 or 0.5 EV steps). The camera automatically calculates the appropriate aperture and shutter speed for correct exposure.
|Tv||Shutter Priority Exposure
In this mode you select the shutter speed and the camera will calculate the correct aperture depending on metered exposure, exposure compensation and ISO sensitivity. Turn the command dial to select shutter speed (0.3 or 0.5 EV steps). The camera automatically calculates the appropriate aperture for correct exposure.
|Av|| Aperture Priority
In this mode you select the aperture and the camera will calculate the correct shutter speed depending on metered exposure, exposure compensation and ISO sensitivity. Turn the rear command dial to select aperture (0.3 or 0.5 EV steps). The camera automatically calculates the appropriate shutter speed for correct exposure. (Exact range depends on lens used)
In this mode the shutter is open for as long as you press the shutter release button. Select aperture by turning the command dial.
