Menus

The K-3's menus build on those of previous Pentax cameras, which means they have to play host to a potentially bewildering array of features. This is often achieved by setting the fine detail in sub-menu screens, meaning there's even more to remember than the already daunting 90 options ranged across 14 pages (further separated into four main tabs). It's a problem a lot of modern cameras face - menu systems straining under the weight of ever more features - but the sheer feature-packed nature of the K-3 starts to make the learning process rather challenging.

That said, most of the moment-to-moment changes you might have to make are usually accessible from the 'Info' menu, so it's only fundamental setup and really specialist modes that are likely to require time spent in the main menus.

The camera's menus are split into five sections; Record, Movies, Playback, Setup and Custom Functions. Each of which is has its own a 'tab' at the top of the page.

One of the first things we's suggest is to engage Custom Option 24 - 'Save Menu Location' so you resume menu browsing from the last-used position, rather than always starting back at tab 1, option 1.
