This is our standard studio scene comparison shot taken from exactly the same tripod position. Lighting: daylight simulation, >98% CRI. Crops are 100%. Ambient temperature was approximately 22°C (~72°F).

Without the famously sharp Olympus prime lens, the G1 doesn't produce quite such stellar images, but they still have a very high level of detail, especially in the center of the frame. Here, against the compact that has produced the highest resolution in this test (at this, it's lowest ISO setting, anyway), it holds its own pretty well. The G10 image looks sharper than the G1 but it also shows the signs of extensive sharpening having been applied. The G1 shows similar amounts of fine detail, however, so it should be possible to achieve similar results if sharpening were pushed up. Note also that the G1's larger sensor means you're getting less depth of field compared to the G10, and this must be taken into consideration when comparing these shots.
