At ISO 400 the differences are much less distinct (save for the obvious difference in the rendering of reds). The SP-310 image still looks very sharp, but the noise reduction isn't terribly successful, meaning the Canon result again looks a lot cleaner. I'd like to see more subtle noise reduction and a little less sharpening on the SP-310 image, but it's far from unusable. Again the answer - if you're prepared to put the work in - is to shoot raw and do the noise reduction / sharpening yourself.
