Olympus E-PL1 vs. Panasonic DMC-GF1

Camera settings:

  • Olympus E-PL1: Olympus 50 mm F2 Macro lens (@F6.3), Aperture Priority, ISO 200
JPEG Large/SHQ, Manual WB, Default Parameters (Standard), Self-Timer

  • Panasonic DMC-GF1: Olympus 50 mm F2 Macro lens (@F6.3), Aperture Priority, ISO 100
JPEG Large/Fine, Manual WB, Default Parameters (Standard), Self-Timer
Olympus E-PL1
Panasonic DMC-GF1
7.7 MB JPEG (4032 x 3024)
6.6 MB JPEG (4000 x 3000)

The Panasonic has one of the weakest anti-aliasing filters we've seen - pared-back to get the most possible detail at the expense of moiré. Here it loses out to the Olympus, which is using its superior JPEG engine to produce an image that is both cleaner and more detailed.
