Compared to...

The 10MP 'entry-level enthusiast' DLSR market is a crowded one, and one that's getting highly competitive with several options available for well under $700 (body and kit lens). On paper the E-510 compares well, offering a winning combination of features (including live view, CCD-shift stabilization) at a very keen price (you can easily pick up the body with the 14-42mm lens for $650), and a feature-by-feature comparison puts it ahead of the Canon, Nikon (the D40X, not included here for space reasons) and Sony offerings in most areas. The only things that really let it down are the small viewfinder and rather antiquated three-point auto focus system. Of course the odd man out in this lineup is the Pentax K10D, which straddles the divide between 'entry level' and 'high end' enthusiast DSLRs - costing less than $100 more than most of the former, yet offering a feature set and build quality that gives many more expensive cameras a run for their money.

1. I own E-420 & E-510 and both have the same problem with the incorporated flash: doesn't rise up enough so that in the image taken with lens hood mounted will appear a shadow in the lower part of the image.
2. At the E-510 you can delete an image by mistake because the 'play' button & 'delete' button are very close and there is no message to ask if you wanna really delete it.
