Compared to...

A glance at the specifications table below tells us that (a) the E-410 doesn't lack in any significant way compared to the competition and (b) its advantages are potentially more significant than those of the other cameras. Over both the D40X and EOS 400D the E-410 delivers through-the-lens live view, while not perfect (no AF without a flip/flop of the mirror) and not as easy to use in daylight as we would hope it's certainly something which has applications in certain situations. Over the D40X the E-410 has its vibrating 'Supersonic Wave Filter' designed to keep dust off the sensor surface (and out of your pictures). Other significant features are fully flexible RAW+JPEG and Mirror lock-up. The E-410's only real weakness is its smaller and darker viewfinder.

Olympus E-410 advantages

  • TTL Live View on LCD monitor
  • Dust reduction thanks to Supersonic Wave Filter
  • User controllable ISO noise reduction
  • Flexible RAW+JPEG modes
  • Customizable Mirror lock-up (1 - 30 seconds)
  • Center and highlight / shadow spot metering
  • Lightest ten megapixel digital SLR body
