Record mode display
The E-10's default mode of operation is with the rear LCD off, it is
after all designed as an SLR, however because of the split beam prism
the CCD still receives the image, so you can use the rear LCD as a "real
image viewfinder" just like any other digital camera. You can choose
from three different displays in this mode:
 |
 |
| No information overlay |
Camera settings and exposure information overlay |
 |
|
| Focus distance overlay |
|
Using the LCD to take a shot:
 |
 |
| Use the live view to frame the shot (not as easy as
it sounds if you have any information overlaid) |
Half-press the shutter release and the image now better
represents the look of the final exposure. |
 |
|
| Fully depress the shutter release and
the camera takes the shot, the LCD display will go blank for a second
or so and then the review image is shown (far more detailed as you
can see above). |
|

Play display
Switching to play mode immediately displays the last image taken. By
holding the INFO button and rolling the main dial to the left you can
overlay different levels of exposure information. If enabled a single
press of the INFO button will overlay a histogram.
 |
 |
| Default basic display,
just card type and frame number. |
Hold INFO and roll control
to left - more overlay information: card type, image size, file type
/ compression, date & time, frame number. |
 |
 |
| Hold INFO and roll control
to left - yet more overlay information: card type, image size, file
type / compression, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation,
white balance, ISO, folder, filename, date & time, frame number. |
If enabled (through the
setup menu) you can press the INFO button once to get this overlaid
histogram. It's a shame Olympus haven't implemented a histogram display
in record mode (after taking a shot). |
Below are some more typical displays in play mode:
 |
 |
| Pressing the protect button
leaves this key icon overlay on the image to indicate it's been protected
(actually sets the filesystem read-only flag). |
Pressing the delete button
displays this delete, yes/no prompt. |
 |
 |
| Rolling the main dial to
the left one click switches to a 2 x 2 thumbnail view, use the 4-way
pad to move around images. |
Rolling the main dial another
click to the left switches to a 3 x 3 thumbnail view, again, use the
4-way pad to move around images. |
 |
 |
| Rolling the main dial to
the right magnifies the image progressively up to x4.0 (as shown here).
Use the 4-way pad to move around the magnified image. |
Press the left or right
arrows on the 4-way pad to move between images on the storage card,
this "loading" bar will appear while the camera retrieves
the image. Pressing up or down skips by 10 images. |
