At ISO 400 the noise reduction being applied by the Nikon looks clumsy in comparison to that of the G9, which together with the much lower sharpening means the P5100's out of camera ISO 400 JPEGs look soft and fuzzy compared to the G9. And no amount of post-processing on the Nikon images is going to yield the same amount of fine detail that the Canon is retaining. Again, a RAW mode would allow users to bypass the P5100's noise filters altogether if they so desired.
