Nikon obviously turns the noise reduction up a notch at ISO 800, though compared to many cameras it's still fairly light-handed, and the output still has detail (and visible noise), though there are the beginnings of a breakdown of the color information (with some mild smearing of the reds). Neither output is going to be usable for anything serious (aside from Fuji's F30/F31 what compact camera's ISO 800 output is?), but for social snaps in low light and small prints you'd just about get away with it. I'd personally rather have the G7's slightly more punchy output (and slight edge on detail), but really we're not talking about significant differences either way here.
