The Custom settings (CSM) Menu provides a wide range of settings
which will allow you to configure the D1x to be a camera best suited
to your shooting style. This provides a huge amount of flexibility
over camera control.
The menus are navigated using the 4-way controller, up and down
to select an option, right to confirm (or enter a sub-menu) and
left to cancel or return to the previous menu. The FUNC button can
also be used (it has the same function as pressing the 4-way controller
to the right).
Notable improvement: Unlike the D1 the D1x
(and D1H) now provide a full text driven menu system interface to custom
settings, previously you'd have to memorize the CSM number (or use a cheat
sheet) to change a setting. If you wish to or after you get used to them
you can reassign the FUNC button to change custom settings without entering
the menu system (the two letter combinations used to make these settings
are indicated in below in the form X-Y).

These controls can be inverted by custom setting 12.
