Rear of camera controls
![]() |
As you can see the rear of the 4500 has been much simplified since the 995. In addition to this simplification the flash button has now migrated across to the lens portion of the camera. Other notable changes are the zoom controller which is now a single rocker, the lack of a record/play switch (Nikon has realized its redundancy since the introduction of the Quick View button) and the new joystick style Multi selector (4-way controller) which is actually easier to use.

* It's worth noting that the Coolpix 4500 provides very fine control over zoom position. Other digital cameras tend to have just five or six zoom positions between wide and telephoto, the Coolpix 4500 appears to have tens of steps and this allows for very accurate selection of zoom position.

* Nikon has chosen to highlight ISO 800 in red when selected, this is to indicate that while the option is available it will produce quite noisy images and is only recommended for extreme situations.
