Studio scene comparison (higher sensitivity)

At anything over ISO 400 the S5 Pro produces visibly better results than the S3 Pro - thanks mainly to a less aggressive noise reduction system that preserves more luminance detail and causes less blurring. Although it can't compete with the Canon EOS 30D at higher ISO settings the S5 Pro compares well with the Nikon D200, and at ISO 1600 and ISO 3200 it produces better looking JPEGs - albeit JPEGs that need sharpening (like all S5 Pro images).

S5 Pro Noise reduction compared (higher sensitivity)

The S5 Pro offers two levels of noise reduction,'STD' (the default setting) and 'ORG', which is lower. As the crops below show the difference is not great - it would be nice to be able to use an even lower setting (either in-camera or in the raw converter, which offers exactly the same options). As our more detailed low contrast shows there is a slight difference in the amount of low contrast detail captured between the two NR settings at the highest ISO settings.
