Both noise and the effects of noise reduction (blurring of fine detail) become very apparent in both cameras at ISO 1600. The Fujifilm has a lower amount of base noise to start with but then also takes a more efficient approach towards noise reduction by heavily blurring chroma noise and leaving luminance noise almost untouched which results in visibly clearer and more appealing pictures.

The results of both cameras at ISO 1600 are not usable for anything serious but the Fujifilm's images still look alright in your normal family album print while the Nikon's output is definitely 'emergency use only' with both noise and blurring just becoming too intrusive.
