At ISO 400 the difference becomes more obvious, and whilst the Nikon's output is by no means terrible, it's visibly noisier and the noise reduction is starting to blur some of the fine detail away. The colors are losing some of their brilliance as well. The F50fd's output is actually still surprisingly good, once again showing Super CCDs inherently better sensitivity, even with 12 million pixels jammed onto a 1.6" sensor. For normal viewing enlargements the F50fd's ISO 400 output is more usable than pretty much any other compact camera on the market.
