Although both noise and the impact of noise reduction are more apparent on the F50fd's image, once again, in absolute terms, the level of detail is admirable on both cameras and on output level the difference is minimal (to all intents and purposes the F50fd image looks like a blown up version of its predecessors (with a fraction more detail and a touch less sharpening).

Both cameras produce excellent results at ISO 400 with good color and contrast. The F31fd was no doubt the best compact camera around at this ISO level. Thankfully Fuji hasn't entirely thrown the baby out with the bathwater in the move to double the pixels (though the advantage conferred is marginal).
