Compared to... Fuji FinePix F30

We'll start by seeing how the F31fd compares with its predecessor, the (still available) FinePix F30 Zoom. Although the lens and sensor are the same (so we expect the differences to be minimal), the F31fd has a new version of the Real Photo Processor, and since this is an important part of the overall image quality equation we thought it was a good idea to check it out. In this section we've included a spread of comparisons, at ISO 100, ISO 800 and ISO 3200. You'll find the F31fd's ISO 400 and ISO 1600 studio shots later in the review.

I think it's safe to say that at ISO 100 the difference between the F31fd and the F30 is so small as to be attributable to sample variation and/or test tolerances. I would say that possibly the F31fd uses marginally lower sharpening and contrast settings, but for most users the two are pretty much interchangeable.
