Aside from a significantly noisier result from the S2, there's no doubt that ISO 400 on the new camera preserves noticeably more detail than the S1, but this is more to do with the number of pixels used than any great advances in noise reduction. Neither camera is producing ISO 400 results you'd be happy with at anything other than postcard-sized prints.
