Compared to... Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1

Below you will find a studio comparison between the Canon PowerShot G10 and the Panasonic DMC-GF1. Our comments about the use of a better lens on the GF1 should be considered, though it's unlikely to make a large difference.

Compared to... Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1

Canon PowerShot G11
Panasonic DMC-GF1
ISO 80, 1/60 sec, F4
ISO 100, 1/40 sec, F6.3

5.2 MB JPEG (4000 x 3000)

The advantage of the GF1 over the G11 is extended further by processing from RAW, with the Panasonic capturing far greater levels of detail. This is not wholly surprising, given the excellence of the lens being used on the GF1, combined with its sensor being so much larger (which in similarly aged cameras tends to have the biggest effect on image quality). The G11's results is very good for a compact camera but here it's being lined up next to something with a DSLR-sized sensor. The trade-off, of course, is that the GF1 would have to have a much larger lens fitted to match the G11's 28-140mm equivalent zoom range.
