Compared to... Canon PowerShot G9

We'll start by seeing how the G10 compares to its predecessor, the PowerShot G9. The resolution has increased, and the lens is also new. How does this impact the image quality?

In this section we have included comparisons at ISO 80, ISO 400 and ISO 1600.

Note: the G10 shots were taken from a slightly higher position than the G9 shots.

The combination of the increased resolution sensor, the new lens and the new Digic IV processor has allowed the G10 to improve on the details and sharpness from the G9. It may take some carefully observation, but the improvement is definitely there. The colour response is almost identical to that of the G9. Overall the results at base ISO of the G10 is very impressive, and from a detail point of view puts many DSLRs to shame.
