Canon EOS 7D vs. Pentax K7

Camera settings:

  • Canon EOS 7D: Canon EF 50 mm F1.4 lens, Aperture Priority, ISO 100
JPEG Large/Fine, Manual WB, Default Parameters (Standard), Self-Timer (with MLU), ALO disabled

  • Pentax K-7: Pentax 50 mm F1.4 lens, Aperture Priority, ISO 100
JPEG Large/Fine, Manual WB, Default Parameters (Bright CI), Self-Timer (auto MLU)
Canon EOS 7D
Pentax K-7
6.4MB JPEG (5184 x 3456)
9.3MB JPEG (4672 x 3104)

Both cameras deliver good sharpness on a pixel level. However, the 7D's higher sensor resolution squeezes a small amount of extra detail out of the scene. Again, at base ISO any differences in detail would only be visible at very large output sizes.
