Record mode display (Auto record modes)

Here is an example of Auto record mode, in this mode the only items on the Function menu which can be changed are drive mode (self-timer) and image size / quality. You can also change flash mode and engage macro focus.

Record mode display (Manual record mode)

Here, an example of information overlay in Manual record mode. FUNC settings are shown down the left of the frame (in the exact same place they are with the FUNC menu displayed), other settings along the top and bottom of the frame. AiAF mode is disabled, hence the center AF frame. (You can have less information overlaid, click here).

In this case: FUNC: +0.3 EV compensation, Cloudy WB, Single drive, ISO 50, Evaluative Metering, Large / Super-Fine JPEG. Others: Macro Focus, Flash Cancel,150 shots remaining.

Here we're already half-pressed the shutter release and are ready to shoot. Automatically selected AF areas turned green to indicate a good focus. Note the exposure display now visible. If you were using AiAF focus mode it would indicate which areas are being used (click here). After shooting a review is displayed briefly, a clean image with no overlaid information. Note that you can press the SET button to freeze the review on the screen or the FUNC button to display the 'Erase / Cancel' option. Note that this is the only review display mode, the A70 has no histogram display option.
Example of movie clip record mode, the number of seconds remaining (>999 in this example) simply refers to the total space, an individual clip is limited to 3 minutes (with a high speed CF card). Example of movie clip record mode, the number of seconds remaining (240 in this example) simply refers to the total space, an individual clip is limited to 3 minutes (with a high speed CF card).

Play mode display

Switching to play mode immediately displays the last image taken. Depending on the previously chosen display mode you'll see this (clean image, no info overlaid) Press DISPLAY to increase the information displayed: folder / filename, frame number, image quality / size, date / time.

Press DISPLAY again to switch to the histogram / exposure mode. Here we can see detailed exposure information as well as an exposure histogram. The A70 does not have a histogram display mode or blinking highlights.

The A70 has a ten steps of playback magnification from 2x to 10x. Magnify mode is very fast both in the actual magnification and scrolling around the magnified image.

Press the zoom controller to wide to switch to this 3x3 image thumbnail view, use the 4-way controller to browse. Note that you can still use play functions in this mode, such as erase.

Press the zoom controller to wide once more to switch to this page by page jump mode, press left or right on the 4-way controller to jump a page nine images at a time.
