Resolution Chart ComparisonShots here are of our 'version two' resolution chart which provides for measurement of resolution up to 4000 LPH (Lines Per Picture Height). A value of 20 equates to 2000 lines per picture height. For each camera the relevant prime lens was used. The chart is shot at a full range of apertures and the sharpest image selected. Studio light, cameras set to aperture priority (optimum aperture selected), image parameters default. Exposure compensation set to deliver approximately 80% luminance of white area.
Measurable results
The A200's measured resolution is quite remarkable for a 10MP sensor and up there with the best in class. The camera's output is very clean and also preserves 'some' detail up to very high resolutions (although there is also a hint of color moire appearing at higher resolutions). In this comparison the Sony's measured resolution can only be matched by the D60 although the Nikon's output is not quite as clean as the A200's. There is a little more moire visible in the Canon 1000D's image which suggests it might use a weaker AA filter then the other cameras. |
