The P5's new 'InfoLithium C' battery is tiny, it's the same size as just four Memory Stick's stacked on top of one another. The battery (NP-FC10) is labelled as 3.6 V, 2.4 Wh which makes it about 40% less powerful than the 'S' series battery used in the P1, about the same power output as Canon's NB-1L used in the IXUS / ELPH digital cameras. The battery charges in-camera by simply connecting the supplied AC adapter / charger.

The bottom of the camera is simple enough, a plastic 'foot' covers the entire base with a single (?) rubber strip down one side and the tripod mount about half way. Good news is that the mount itself is metal, bad news is that it's located quite close to the edge of the camera which may lead to the camera tilting forwards on a tripod head.

Not always a serious concern for a camera in this market segment.

The P5's flash unit is mounted on the left side of the camera front, beside it is a photocell which is used to regulate the flash output. Beside this is the viewfinder window and the next 'dot' is the new AF assist lamp which appears to be a similar unit to that used on the S75/S85. The AF assist lamp comes on automatically for exposures of approximately 5 EV or less, it uses an orange coloured light to assist the camera's contrast detect AF system.
