At ISO 400 there's still very little between these cameras; the Canon has slightly lower luminance noise (and considerably less color noise), but seems softer overall (thanks in part to stronger noise reduction, in part to higher in-camera sharpening on the Sony). What is perhaps most surprising is how well both cameras control noise,
which is actually lower than many equivalent 5 megapixel models at the
same ISO setting.
