Compared to... Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6

Below you will find a studio comparison between the Olympus SP-500UZ and the only other six megapixel 'super zoom' on the market today; the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6. We have included samples each camera's highest and lowest ISO settings (SP-500UZ; ISO 80 and 400, KM Z6; ISO 50 and 320).

Studio scene comparison (SP-500UZ @ ISO 400, KM Z6 @ ISO 320)

  • Olympus SP-500UZ: Aperture Priority mode (F5.0), ISO 400, Default Image Parameters,
Manual white balance, +1.0 EV compensation
  • Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 : Aperture Priority mode (F5.0), ISO 320, Default Image Parameters, Manual white balance, +0.7 EV compensation
  • Lighting: Daylight simulation, >98% CRI

ISO 320, 1/320 sec, F5.0

At ISO 400 the differences are much less distinct (save for the obvious difference in the rendering of reds). Noise was always the Konica Minolta 'Z' series' achilles heel, and even with the slightly lower ISO the Z6 image looks very slightly noisier (and certainly has more obvious noise reduction) than the Olympus.
