What's new / key features
| New 12.3 Megapixel High Speed Live MOS sensor and TruePix III+ image processor. This, we suspect, is very similar to the sensor used in Pansonic's G1. |
Sensor-shift image stabilization system with a claimed 5 stop advantage. |

New Autofocus System. The E-3 saw the first major upgrade of the ageing 3 point AF system used on all Olympus DSLRs since the original E-1 back in 2003. The E-30 shares the E-3's new fully-biaxial high-speed 11-point AF system with both horizontal and vertical sensor lines to give a total of 44 different data points from which the focus is calculated.
Alongside the E-30 Olympus released the Zuiko Digital 14-54mm 1:2.8-3.5 II lens; successor to the Zuiko Digital 14-54mm 1:2.8-3.5. The new lens has been redesigned to offer compatibility with the 'High-speed imager AF' system included in recent Four Thirds DSLRs. The lens is a 3x zoom, equivalent to 28-108mm on 35mm format. |

| New larger fully articulated screen. 230,000 pixel multi-angle, 2.7” HyperCrystal LCD. |
Live View. Like all current Olympus digital SLRs the E-30 offers live view functionality Unlike the E-3 you get contrast-detect autofocus (which is said to be improved over previous implementations). |
| New viewfinder. Not quite E-3 standard (the magnification is slightly lower and the coverage is only 98%), but a lot, lot better than any of the consumer E series SLRs. |
Art Filters. 'Art Filters' provide a series of image effects (for JPEGs), such as Pale & Light Color, Pop Art and Pin Hole Camera modes. |
| Wireless Flash. The E-30 allows wireless control of flash units, such as the new Olympus FL-36R and FL-50R, in up to three groups. |
Power Grip HLD-4. The E-30 is compatible with the E-3's vertical grip. |
| Levelling Gauge. The E-30 can detect both pitch and roll and has the option to correct for both. |
The E-30 features a Multi Exposure mode that allows you to overlay two, three or four frames in one image. |
