The same studio scene comparison shot (and setup) as the previous pages but here shot in RAW mode and converted to an 8-bit TIFF. Crops below are from the TIFF image, you can download a JPEG Quality 11 (Photoshop CS) copy of the TIFF by clicking on the link below the thumbnails.

• The Nikon RAW (NEF) image was converted to TIFF using Nikon Capture 4.1
  (no parameter adjustments).
   
• The Canon RAW (CRW) image was converted to TIFF using Canon FileViewerUtility 1.3
  (no parameter adjustments).

Shooting as RAW delivers noticeable improvements to both cameras images. Both images appear more detailed and sharper with less artifacts. The D70 opens up a lead here showing both good sharpness and almost no detectable halo sharpening artifacts. Pixel for pixel the D70 appears to be slightly ahead of the 300D although there are a couple of places where there's a hint of the D70's moiré (and interestingly more so than we saw in the JPEG image).
