Compared to the Canon EOS-D60 (contd.)
Outdoor scene comparison
The following shot is of Tower Bridge, London. I had to shoot the D60
first and then walk forward a step or two before taking the D100 shot
to compensate in the difference between the D60's 1.6x multiplier and
the D100's 1.5x. Crops magnified 200%.
- Nikon D100: Sharpening: Auto, Tone: Auto, Color Mode: I, White
balance: Sunny,
Aperture Priority, Auto Focus, Nikkor 50 mm F1.4 lens, Large/Fine JPEG
- Canon EOS-D60: Parameters: Standard, White balance: Sunny,
Aperture Priority, Auto Focus, Canon EF 50 mm F1.4 lens, Large/Fine
JPEG
Note: We used the 'Auto' sharpening setting on the D100 as this proved
to be consistently sharper than the 'Normal' setting. For
examples of sharpening levels see this page.

Again, it's a very close match. Both cameras meter and
expose the scene well, the D60 exhibiting slightly more dynamic range
(but not much). Colour balance is similar, although the D60 does produce
warmer looking tones, especially noticeable on the brick colour of the
bridge. Resolution and detail are also similar, although I'd give the
edge to the D60 which does look sharper and manages to pull a little more
detail out of distant objects.
