Colour space

Great news! The DiMAGE 7i's colour space is very closely matched to sRGB. This means there is now no need to run DiMAGE 7i images through the Minolta DiMAGE Viewer to get correct colour on sRGB devices. Testing this by running some 7i images through Minolta DiMAGE Viewer we noted only a very subtle difference in the lightness of shadows, no major difference in colour. You will be able to see this subtle difference by rolling your mouse over the image below.

The DiMAGE 7i offers a wide variety of resolution and image format options. You can choose from JPEG (three compression levels) or TIFF at 2560 x 1920 (full native resolution), 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960 or 640 x 480. As well as RAW format which is fixed at 2560 x 1920.

To give an impression of what some of the combinations of image size and quality produce the table below is a cross reference of some of them:

There is very little visible difference between the JPEG FINE and TIFF (Super-Fine) images. From what we can see here TIFF isn't worth the additional storage overhead. RAW offers a different option, it allows you to select parameters such as white balance, contrast, sharpening etc. during post-processing on a computer. The disadvantage of RAW is the storage overhead and inability to open the file in anything but Minolta's DiMAGE Viewer.
