The F601 Zoom appears to have the same 36 - 108 mm (equiv.) 3x optical zoom lens we first saw used on the FinePix 4700Z. This lens has a maximum aperture of F2.8 at wide angle and F4.5 at telephoto. The lens extends quickly at power up (just 1.7 seconds) and is relatively quiet during zoom and focusing.

The base of the F601Z is a relatively simple affair, the cradle connector and metal tripod mount. Kudos for using metal, however the tripod mount is a little too close to the right hand edge to provide a firm grip on any decent tripod. This mount would have been far better if it could have been located nearer to the center of the base.

The pop-up flash on the F601Z has a quoted range of 0.2 - 4.7 m (7.8 in - 15.4 ft) at wide angle and 0.2 - 3.0 m (7.8 in - 9.8 ft) at telephoto. Note that these ranges are quoted at ISO 200, the camera automatically switches to this sensitivity (in Auto exposure mode at least) when shooting with the flash.

The flash is released manually by pressing a button on the rear of the camera.

Also provided in the Premium Kit (optional otherwise) is the semi-hard case which holds the camera horizontally and features a belt loop on the back.
