Battery Charger
The P700 has an external battery charger, the BC-30L which comes in either power cord or plug-in types. This unit has a charge indicator light which starts red and turns green once the battery has charged, which should take no more than two hours according to the camera manual. |
Connections
On the right side of the camera (from the rear) are a column of connectors behind a plastic door, the DC-IN connector at the top and below this a combined USB and A/V out connector. On the left side is one of the P700's "unique selling points" and standard PC Sync flash terminal which will enable you to connect the camera directly to external flash units or even a studio flash setup.
Lens
The EX-P700 has a Canon branded four times optical zoom lens which has very similar specifications (and looks very similar) to the 'Carl Zeiss' lens used on the Sony DSC-V3. This is the same lens used on the P600 and so it will be interesting to see how it performs delivering resolution to a seven megapixel CCD which measures just 8.9 mm (approx. 1/3 in) diagonally.

Base / Tripod Mount
On the base of the camera is a metal tripod mount which is in perhaps the worst position possible, very close to the edge of the body. This means that when you tighten the screw on a tripod mount the camera has a tendency to tilt to the left (from the back).
Remote Control
Also supplied with the camera is the WR-4C Infrared remote control. This unit provides control of both record (zoom, shutter release etc.) and play functions (image browsing, magnification). Kudos to Casio for providing this accessory as standard (only themselves and Canon do so in this segment).
Internal Flash / External AF sensor
To the left of the lens / viewfinder assembly on the front of the camera is the P700's ultra-slim flash unit and external AF sensor. The flash provides a range of approximately 3.6 m at wide angle or 2.5 m at telephoto with the camera set to Auto ISO. The AF sensor is used as part of the camera's "Hybrid AF" to provide an approximate subject distance which the camera can use in combination with standard CCD AF. |
