Studio scene comparison (Canon SD450 @ ISO 50, Panasonic LZ2 @ ISO 80)

  • Canon PowerShot SD450: Program mode, ISO 50, Default Image Parameters,

There's not a huge difference tonally between the Panasonic and Canon cameras (the minor color differences are due to manual white balance measurement differences). In terms of detail there isn't a lot in it either - the SD450 is slightly softer at the edges and in the corners, but both cameras are producing pretty impressive results (the Panasonic image has slightly higher in-camera sharpening, which gives it a slightly 'crisper' look, but the amount of detail captured is very similar).

It is worth noting that the exposure values indicate that the Panasonic is less sensitive than the Canon (Canon tends to understate the ISO equivalent values of its sensitivity settings).
