Record mode display (Auto record modes)
 |
Here is an example of Auto record mode, in this mode the only items
on the Function menu which can be changed are image size and quality.
You can select from normal drive or self timer as well as different
flash modes, everything else is automatic.
|

Record mode display (Manual record mode)
 |
Here, an example of information overlay in Manual record mode.
FUNC settings are shown down the left of the frame (in the exact
same place they are with the FUNC menu displayed), other settings
along the top and bottom of the frame. AiAF mode is enabled, otherwise
a center AF frame would also be visible.

In this case: FUNC: +0.7 EV compensation, Cloudy WB, ISO
100, Large / Super-Fine JPEG. Others: Evaluative Metering,
Single Drive, Macro Focus, Flash Cancel, Landscape Orientation,
241 shots remaining.
|
 |
 |
| Here we're already half-pressed the shutter release
and are ready to shoot. Automatically selected AF areas turned green
to indicate a good focus. Note that unlike the G3 and S50 the S400
does not display the actual exposure to be used. |
After shooting a review is displayed briefly, note that
we have chosen the detailed display mode (with histogram). During
this review you can press the FUNC (erase) button to erase
the image, SET to hold the image on the screen or half-press the
shutter release to return to shooting. |
 |
 |
| Example of movie clip record mode, the number of seconds
remaining (>999 in this example) simply refers to the total space,
an individual clip is limited to 3 minutes (with a high speed CF card). |
Here you can see the overlaid FUNC menu. As you move
down the menu options the settings for that option are shown at the
bottom of the screen, use the left and right arrows to change. The
exposure compensation option doubles for long exposure selection (press
SET). |

Play mode display
 |
 |
| Switching to play mode
immediately displays the last image taken. Depending on the previously
chosen display mode you'll see this (clean image, no info overlaid) |
Press DISPLAY to increase
the information displayed: folder / filename, frame number, image
quality / size, date / time. |
 |
|
| Press DISPLAY again to
switch to the histogram / exposure mode. Here we can see detailed
exposure information as well as an exposure histogram. The S400 does
not support blinking of overexposed highlights. |
