Compared to... Canon PowerShot A640
Rather than compare the G7 to its predecessor (the G6) - 2 years is such a long time in digital cameras terms that such a comparison would be largely irrelevant - we decided to see how it compares to its stable mate, the A640, which shares the same sensor but costs around $200 less. In this section we have included comparisons at each camera's lowest ISO setting (ISO 80), and ISO 800 (the highest available on the A640)
Studio scene comparison (@ ISO 80)
- Canon PowerShot G7: Aperture Priority mode, ISO 80, Default Image Parameters,

Although there are some very slight processing differences (the G7 has the newer DIGIC III processor), and the G7's lens appears to have very, very slightly better edge-to-edge sharpness what's remarkable about these two images is just how similar they are; I would challenge anyone to tell them apart in a print.
