Although both cameras are suffering from the effects of noise and noise reduction, the G7 undoubtedly has the edge here, producing output that could - at a stretch - be used for serious work as long as your print size expectations aren't too high. Compared to previous sensor generations the 10MP chip used in the G7 is surprisingly good at ISO 400; no doubt the DIGIC III processor helps, but you have to wonder how much better it would have been had all this technology been used on a sensor with fewer, larger, more sensitive pixels.
