As resolutions climb the differences between two cameras becomes less pronounced, we need to quadruple megapixel count to get twice the resolution. Hence the EOS-1Ds Mark IIs megapixel advantage of 30% relates to just a 14% increase in horizontal and vertical resolution. It's certainly possible to see areas of the images where the EOS-1Ds Mark II out-performs the EOS 5D but frankly it's much closer than I had expected.
