JPEG vs. EVU vs. DPP vs. Adobe Camera RAW vs. C1 Pro
In the comparisons below the JPEG and RAW images were taken within seconds
of each other. The labels beside each sample equate to:
JPEG - JPEG straight from the camera (Large, Quality 8)
EVU - Canon EOS Viewer Utility 1.0.0.30
DPP Shot - Canon Digital Photo Professional 1.0.0.5 (Color
adjustment 'Shot setting')
DPP Faithful - Canon Digital Photo Professional 1.0.0.5 (Color
adjustment 'Faithful setting')
C1 Pro - Capture One Pro 3.5
Adobe RAW - Adobe Camera RAW 2.3 (early beta) via Adobe Photoshop

Color reproduction
Below you can see our standard 'Watch & Crayons' shot as used on
page 13 (Output image file quality) of this review. As you can see JPEG
and EVU have a fairly similar color balance with the only difference being
the saturation of reds. DPP Shot produced good greens and blues but washed
out reds, DPP Faithful was far better and is actually the closest to the
original scene of all the samples. C1 Pro's colors were the most vibrant
and 'pleasing' although the blue of the crayon appears more blue than
in real life. Adobe RAW produced a very similar balance to DPP Shot, slightly
washed out reds.

Detail / Sharpness
It's worth noting that the JPEG, EVU and DPP images had an output sharpness
of '2', Adobe RAW was left as its default sharpness as was C1 Pro. C1
Pro achieves the sharpest image with the best detail reproduction closely
followed by DPP.

Resolution
JPEG and EVU produced very similar results, C1 Pro delivering very good
sharpness and resolution with no visible sharpening artifacts (nice clean
edges). I have no idea what the issue is with DPP but clearly its moire
reduction algorithm went awry with our RAW resolution chart shot, a pretty
horrible mess (we have informed Canon of this issue, they are investigating).
Sharpness for all of these images is 0 (default).
