Here's a perfect example of Canon's miniaturization expertise, the CF slot being just bigger than the card itself, there's very little space for anything but the enclosure and eject button.. Click the CF OPEN button down and the door flips open, ejector easily located as it is uncovered by the opening door. Unfortunately yet another manufacturer who has orientated the CF slot so that the fingernail lip on the CF card faces the front of the camera.. Though not as bad as we found on the 990 it can make gripping a CF card a little fiddley |
Connections

One connector does all.. Yep, there's just one super-slim connector on the left side of the Digital IXUS. Normally covered by a rubber door (grommet?) it takes either of the two provided cables, one for USB connection the other for video output. Neat, tidy, simple. |
Tripod Mount

And we complained about the location of the tripod mount on the 950! Well, in defense of Canon they are dealing with an extremely tight space, but it does look like a bit of an afterthought... With a camera of this type you'd probably only use one of those small tabletop tripods which have a fairly small head and it should be OK. On my Manfrotto head the camera tilted about 2 degrees counterclockwise which had to be corrected. Having a panorama mode on the camera I'd have thought they'd have positioned the tripod mount a little more carefully. |
Internal Flash

I'm not going to make any positive statement here but the flash looks to me to be exactly the same as on the IXUS II APS camera,the official working range of this flash was sketchy, only maximum ranges were available... • Wide: ?? - 3 m (10 ft) Suffice to say it's a little weaker than you'd find on a typical digicam (although performance/size ratio is high). |
Focus Assist Lamp

Located directly above the lens is the focus assist lamp, it comes on to assist the auto-focus system in low light situations (hooray!). Both the S10 & S20 had focus assist lamps, on the Digital IXUS Canon are using a different projected pattern (shown on the right).

Optional Accessories
