Record mode display
 |
Here you can see an example of the live preview image on the LCD
just prior to taking a shot, you can clearly see the three AF points.
Along the top of the screen is a status bar with the status of various
settings, more of these are also shown at the bottom of the screen
in icon form. Settings in this example: Manual record, +0.3 EV compensation,
Cloudy white balance, Super-Fine Large image, Landscape orientation,
Flash cancel, Single drive, Macro focus, Evaluative metering, 249
frames remaining.
|
 |
 |
| Half-pressing the shutter release causes the cameras
autofocus and metering systems to lock, the locked AF points glow
green, if no AF lock can be made no points will be displayed. Note
the camera shake warning icon, indicating that this shot could suffer
from blur if the camera is not braced or held firmly. |
After fully depressing the shutter release a brief review
of the image is shown, this can be disabled or set to show for 2 or
10 seconds. In this example we have also chosen the optional detailed
display which includes a histogram. Record review histogram is a great
feature, and something we wouldn't expect to see on a camera at this
level. Kudos. |
 |
 |
| Pressing the SET button while in record
review 'holds' the image, or you can press the EV/WB button (has a
trashcan icon) to choose to erase the image before it's finally written
to the CF card. |
Press the DISP button while in record
review to switch between this plain view review or the more detailed
view with histogram (above). |
 |
 |
| Above you can see an example of how
the AF point is highlighted when the subject is offset in the frame.
Remember, you still only have three AF points but that they are relatively
large and occupy at least two thirds (horizontally) of the center
of the frame. Note that when the camera is held vertically (portrait)
only the two upper focus points are active. If AiAF is disabled only
the center AF point is active. |
 |
 |
| Auto record mode, no control over exposure
compensation or white balance. No ISO selection, no infinity focus
(though you can still select macro focus), no continuous drive, evaluative
metering (spot metering can not be selected) and AF is locked to AiAF
three point. |
Here's an example of movie clip
mode. Note that the 590 seconds indicates the total amount of space
on the card, you can only shoot short clips at a time (approx. 4,
10, 30 sec @ 640 x 480, 320 x 240, 160 x 120 respectively). |
 |
 |
| Changing settings such as exposure compensation,
white balance or photo effect take immediate effect as each setting
is selected. |

Play display
 |
 |
| Switching to play mode
displays the last image shot (or the last image on the CF card). Overlaid
is basic information: folder name-filename, frame number, total frames,
image size / quality, date & time. This is the default playback
view. |
Press the DISP button
to display more detailed exposure information and an overlaid histogram
(same as record review). Press DISP once more to switch to a 'clean'
view with no overlaid information. (Selected play mode is memorized
by the camera after power-off) |
 |
 |
| Press the tele button (zoom
controller) to magnify the displayed image. The IXUS 330's new magnify
mode is a vast improvement over what was available on previous the
previous models. Now you can magnify up to 10x and the camera magnifies
very quickly. There are 10 steps from full view to 10x magnified,
if you hold your finger on the tele button magnification to 10x takes
just 1.4 seconds. Once magnified you can use the new 4-way controller
to scroll around the image. |
 |
 |
| Press the wide button
(zoom controller) to switch to a thumbnail view (3 x 3), here you
can use the 4-way controller to scroll through images. Press the wide
button once more to switch to 'jump mode' where you can quickly flick
through pages of 9 images using the left and right arrows of the 4-way
controller. (Note that images taken with the camera held vertically
are automatically orientated in the correct direction - although the
JPEG files themselves are still landscape). |
 |
 |
| Press the erase button
(EV/WB) to delete the current image, note that this action requires
confirmation using the 4-way controller and the SET button. |
Here is an example of
recording a 'Sound Memo' which is attached to the selected image (max
60 seconds). Sound Memo's are recorded in WAV format and have the
same base filename as the image (eg. IMG_2034.JPG & IMG_2034.WAV). |
