I think I read about SLT mirror improvements since Sony released their first, a33 and a55, in the late summer of 2010. Wow, almost four years ago. I am still fascinated whenever I pick up my a55/Tamron 17-50/2.8 combo.... Now for the question: I wondered whether the SLT mirrors from APS-C SLTs introduced later would fit mechanically in my a55. Anybody in the know around here? And, should it fit,  is it worth to upgrade the mirror? In all of my use I never saw an issue so far. Thanks for your...

I had the A33 and it would shoot 7 FPS but only for a short burst . Is there anyway in the reviews to tell how long a burst a certain camera has .  And also the length of time a SLR will shoot HD movie before shutting down due to overheating ? Thanks

According to the manual that came with my A57, engaging Steady Shot in video increases heat and therefore the possibility of video overheating. It certainly did on my A33, but it's my understanding that the video stabilization is digital, which should not generate heat in the sensor area the way the 33/55 did.  So is there any benefit to turning it off for video other than you'd rather not have it on for effect? What about tripod usage to smooth panning? Page 82 says: If you observe the...

I have just picked up a Kenko M-AF 1.4x Teleplus teleconverter on eBay to use with my A33. Now it doesn't seem to work at all with the Tamron 70-300 f4.5-5.6.  I was half expecting manual focus only but it is not showing or allowing me to change the aperature.  It partly works with my old Minolta 28-80 AF giving me access to aperture but not autofocus. So is the problem with the A33 or the Kenko?  The camera is set to release w/o lens.

Hi Everyone,  I currently have an A33, and am researching options for an upgrade.  Based on what I have seen/ read so far, the A77 or NEX6 seem like the options that suit me best.  I am definitely not a pro- an enthusiast that likes taking a range of photos- mostly when I travel. The small size of the NEX is what is so attractive- reducing bulk/ weight while traveling the world. Currently I mostly use a 18-200mm, 50mm, 35mm, and 8mm fisheye.  When I was comparing Alpha or NEX years ago (when...

So a friend of mine lost his eyecup on vacation. I told him I would take a look, expecting this accessory to not be too hard to find. I searched for Sony FDAEP8AM and 419221502 (Sony part number, don't know why it's different from the other).  It's glaringly out of stock everywhere, except at Sony Pro Parts where it can be had for the very reasonable low low price of $43.03 plus tax and shipping I assume; you've got to be kidding me.  (I suppose it could have been an even $44 but they clearly...

Yesterday I experienced the following: I was preparing for a photo shoot and switched on the A55. I thought I had charged both the main (original Sony) as well as the backup (some no-name el-cheapo) battery. However, the camera gave a short click and was completely dead. The main battery was in the camera. I took it out and inserted it again. Nothing, not even de usual sounds you get. I took off the lens and flipped the mirror up and saw that the shutter was closed. Now what... I inserted the...

Hi there, I am doing some research on live view manual focus assist magnification on DSLRs. This feature is one of the great things I like about the Sony cameras - I own an SLT-A55. However, my attempts to find data about this feature on other models in the range have not proven very successful. I know that the A55 has 7.5X and 15X and I think the A33 has 7X and 14X. My question is to the owners of the following models ( or technical gurus ) what live view magnifications are available to...

Hi, I've just purchased a Sony Alpha 57 and have a question regarding the RAW & Jpeg mode. What quality level are the jpeg photos stored in, fine or standard? My guess is that it's standard, but after reading "David Busch's Sony Alpha SLT A55 & A33 Digital Photography" it seems like it's fine... "The JPEG files will be stored in Fine quality and Large size" Does anyone know for sure? Thanks

hi. I have the a35 for over a year now....it's paired up with the heavy 16-50 f2.8. Recently I have been facing some problems........the lens mount is a little wobbly......the screws are tight though.....others the lens moves by around a millimeter side to side (rotationaly). This happens when zooming in and out with big heavy lenses.......and when that happens , the camera won't read the lens sometimes.......and the aperture will go off.........I'm am certain it's not the lens fault because...
