Don't be fooled by the 5.6, the lens is super fast for that length! the freedom to go upto 400 with that image quality is unbelievable! No CA, no flares, no soft corners, no soft contrasts! If you do sports or landscape/wildlife this is the best you can get for your buck! Image quality is 10 out of 10 straight from 5.6! I have used this lens now for about a year on a range of subjects....from sports, birds and sunsets through to macro type shots in combination with a cannon "close up" lens. It is amazingly versatile and crisp - even wide open. I haven't seen any comments on the forums from people who regret buying this lens - only people enthusing about the results they get with it.
