My FD97 is a workhorse after all these years. The zoom was certainly put to use at an outdoor high school graduation lately and I could not be happier with the results. I attached a CPL because of the bright sun and the skin tones were excellent. Of all the Sony cameras that I own, this is my most trusted when it comes to facial closeups at a long distance. Problems: Memory is not adequate but I merely bring extra memory sticks to compensate for this.

This is the second Mavica have owned and the features are great esspecially the auto/manual and great zoom. The quality of pics for a 2.1 megapixiel is a lot better than I thought it would be. The marco feature is nearly as good as 35mm. For ease of use having the choice of floppy disk or stick for fast transfer to cpu or pick your pics to develop on photo printer. The top viewfinder is a plus over most mavica's. Great price now for used 300. to 400. Problems: None. Battery life a little ...

I have been a pro photographer since the mid-late 80's, having worked for numerous major newspapers as well as being a stringer for Associated Press... I am also a web developer and graphic artist, and thus have a lot of necessity for digital imagery. This is "officially" my 2nd digital camera, as I had actually sworn myself away from them years ago, after attempting to compare them to pro grade 35's. While digital is simply not the same as film, it has certainly come close enough for web ...

This is my second Digital camera, I am glad that I finally decided to buy this one. I have taken all my pictures using the floppies, allot easier to use, I am still learning all the features of this camera, I have taken pics using the flash inside, had no problems. The shutter speed could be faster, but have learned to cope with it. I do webpage building I like the feature of it writing the HTML to view pics on computer, that sure makes it easier to post on website. I highly recommend to ...

My first digital camera, have always shot w/Nikon bodies and lenses, starting with the F. I've been of the opinion that digital wasn't up to film yet, but wanted to try it anyway...and rather than spend the cost of a good used car, or a couple of good guitars on a D1X, I started with this one, primarily because of the ability to save to floppy. While I was right about film being better, I am extremely happy with this camera and with the convenience and quality of the shots. I tend to be ...

Can't beat a 10x zoom camera. This camera takes awsome pictures with great print quality. Even 1600x1200 "ECM" (economy)mode shots (jpeg compressed to only 180kb) look superb and cannot be distinguished from "fine" mode shots (800kb) by the naked eye. Unfortunately "ECM" mode recording is only available in floppy recording mode, not with memory stick. However the camera can transfer files between MS and floppy. Using this feature it becomes possible to get about 300 1600x1200 "ECM" mode ...

The Mavica FD-97 is a great camera for freelance photojournalists doing newspaper work. With a high capacity Memory Stick you can fire away, and then transfer only your best shots to a floppy disk for presentation to an editor. All of that can be done quickly on the road, and at a cost of less than fifty cents. I used to spend the price of the camera on film and rapid processing in one month. The picture quality is more than adaquate for newspaper work, where most photos are seldom printed ...

This is my first digital camera, and I am more than a little pleased with the quality of the pictures obtained using the FD97. Overall I'd say it's an excellent camera, and the size has been no inconvenience whatsoever. Good photo imaging software, and a photo quality printer (with top line photo paper) are a must to realize the full potential of the camera. I would recommend the camera to friends. Problems: The manual is a big disappointment, and the indexing might just as well have been ...

Just got the FD97 yesterday, WOWOWOW! Great pics and lots of controls, the SteadyShot feature is awesome. Hand held at full 20x is np. I got my feet wet with a 'JamCam', $39 on Ebay, and it was a great intro to digital photography, but the Sony is exponential miles ahead. Very happy with the results. The recent price drop makes it excellent value in my book. Problems: None so far, :o).

I purchased this camera a couple of months ago and only kept it for a short time, all the buttons you had to push to get to the features was very confusing to me, maybe if I had kept it longer I could have made myself more knowlegable about it.I bought a MVC FD92 & if you read my review on that camerea you will see that I am very happy with it. Problems: confusing
