A wide-angle 3x Carl Zeiss vario-Tessar zoom lens makes the the DSC-S40 quite impressive with a similar menu system to the S600 and handy multi-burst and burst modes, plus a useful selection of scene modes. Imagw quality is great.

My first digital camera. I had it for 2 years and had really no issues with it. The pictures came out really good if ideal lighting was present. Night pictures were almost impossible without a tripod or a real steady hand. Problems: The LCD screen decided to go white and display an image after a year of owning it. Something came lose inside it dealing with the LCD.

I bought this camera around 18 months ago as my first foray into digital, just wanting a small easy to carry P & S. Firstly, having read other reviews it would seem that some people have had build quality issues although I must say that having taken in excess of 2000 pics with mine it hasn't gone wrong once. Build quality is solid enough for a small compact and in the absence of any sort of manual controls I found that the scene modes performed well enough. The image quality is very good if ...

For entry level camera, this is a very good choice. Very easy to use and good picture quality. Problems: The LCD screen white out in 11 months. I got it fixed under warranty. It die again at 14 months. I have to search through internet in order to find a method to fix it. I can see this is a common problem of the S40

I bought this camera for my teenage kids. I bought 3 of them. One camera had problems with the lcd screen. It took 2 returns to Sony and a few phone calls back to the repair facility to get it fixed. My daughter took it to Europe with her and took thousands of photos and some movies. Now all three have failed. All three lcd screens have stopped working. Problems: lcd screen stopped working

I have used this camera extensively and have been pleased with the results. There is a tendancy for lens flare but carefull use can reduce this. The screen is a little small and the constrction a bit plasticy but it is a lot cheaper than similar specification cameras ...I have also used the S600 which is a higher mega pixel version of this but was disappointed in that model due to image problems when shooting high contrast scenes. I would recommend this camera to someone on a budget but who ...

The 32mm at wide end is what sold me on the S40. For such an inexpensive camera the distortion is well controlled and the resolution is excellent. One second shot refresh and 2 second flash refresh are quite nice...There are enough manual contols to keep anyone happy. Not too many buttons or dials, but just enough to keep one from having to continuosly using the menu...A nice quality shirt cam for a reasonable price...I liked it so well, I bought two... Problems: Get rid of the alkaline ...

This is a very nice little pocket camera. I have owned several Sony digital cameras and have found them all excellent. The pictures from this unit are great for the size. The functionality, including shutter lag, is also excellent. Problems: Many reviewers here have complained about both battery problems and power on problems. It turns out, after talking with Sony about this, that the batteries packaged with the camera are not sufficient to power the camera (leave it to Sony to do this)! ...

Execellent lens. This summer I took about eight thousand photos and on occasion I was able to take over 600 photos without recharging the batteries. Burst mode is excellent. Very fast for start-up and for recording. Also the transfer to the computer is amazingly fast. Problems: I would prefer a loop approach for the menus, rather than having to go from left to right and back. I use burst a lot - this allows me to do portraits in low light - but when I opt to use flash, I must deactivate the ...

A fun little camera. Ths is my 4th digital P&S, and I also own 2 DSLR and several film cameras. I had a Konica Minolta Xg that I took on business trips. The Xg fit into a shirt pocket with room to spare. After it got stolen, I bought a Cannon A520. I fell into the "feature trap". The Cannon has a nice 4X zoom and many manual features that are useless on small cameras. (Does anyone really use a light meter to set the exposure manually on these cameras?) The A520 is painfully slow, with ...
